Makeup is expensive. There I said it. But no one better tell my husband... or else. Once upon a time, the only way to fake super model skin, meant spending major coin at a department store or on a luxury makeup brand. But sis, this is 2020, and drugstore brands are bringing their A-game. Here‘s a list of my drugstore must-haves, that I would truly choose over expensive brands (and I do choose them consistently). Now you can start your makeup addiction for a fraction of the high end cost.

Primer
I'm going to be 100% honest here, I have not found a holy grail drugstore primer as of yet. I tried the Milani Prime Perfection and it just felt a little too tacky for my liking, I may give it another try one day, and I'll be sure to update you if I change my mind. I've tried many others but never been blown away by any of them, and truthfully I just don't like spending my money on primers when I could be spending it on foundations (my weakness). I do have some high-end ones that I use for myself or others for special occasions, but I don't generally use them for day-to-day wear. I much prefer a good moisturizer/sunscreen.
Foundation
This is one of the main areas that affordable brands have been elevating themselves. There are a few options that are truly standouts to me so just pick one based on your budget and skin type
.
*Wet N Wild Photofocus (Matte): For $5 you can’t beat the coverage and finish of this foundation. It is very comparable to Estée Lauder Double Wear in my opinion. The finish may claim to be matte, but I would say that it is more of a satin matte, and leaves a little life to your skin. The cons with this one are the shade range is limited to 20 shades, and the smell. It smells like you made a trip to Home Depot and dove face first into the Behr paint. But the smell goes away almost instantly and you are left with opaque coverage for $5 per bottle. Worth it.

*Loreal Infallable: I was recently looking back at photos from earlier this year and was kicking myself for not remembering my makeup routine because my skin looked FLAWLESS. Then I realized that this foundation was the difference. It’s the only foundation that I bought and finished in less than 2 months. As a makeup junkie, that’s really saying something, because I own between 30-40 foundations. Again, no one better tell my husband. This foundation comes in 40 shades, so chances are they have a match for you. It is on the higher end of the drugstore price range at around $12, but soooo worth the extra few dollars.

*Maybelline SuperStay 24 Hour: I have seen many beauty bloggers claiming that this is a dupe for the (WAY) pricier La Mer Foundation or the Huda Beauty Foundation. Seeing as those are $120 and $40, I would suggest trying out Maybelline first. I have seen SuperStay range in price from $8.75-$11. The coverage you get is worth much more though. You can cover up all of your acne, discoloration, scarring, and all past mistakes with this one, and it will last all day. This one comes in the middle of the previous two at 30 shades. I do find that depending on the day, I may need to set my T-zone areas with a little powder, but at the same time, I never feel like my skin is overly dry with this one, even in the winter months.

Concealer
I have 2 current faves, but I’m open to new ones if anyone wants to recommend any! (Except the Loreal infallible concealer. As much as I love the foundation, I can not make the concealer work for me.)
*Maybelline Fit Me: A very creamy concealer with medium coverage. I’d suggest letting it sit for about 30 seconds before blending it out. The blend is smooth, takes very little effort, and doesn't ever look cakey, but this is not the concealer to cover up a long night out.

*Elf Camo: A more heavy duty concealer, this conceals all of my late nights with a 2 year old. Goes on better with a damp sponge or warm finger. Do one area at a time as it dries down quickly.

There are many other affordable products on the market, but these are a few of my top tried and true choices that are easily accessible to most people. Have you tried any of these or do you have a different favorite drugstore base product? Please leave me suggestions! I'm always open to trying new products and I'm always interested to know what products work for other people.
Here is a link to all of the products mentioned above along with a few others I really enjoy, let me know if you try them!
