Winter Hair Care

If you’re like a vast part of the population, then the colder months are wreaking havoc on your hair. While I can’t change the weather (if I could, it would be 77 degrees with zero humidity right now), but I can give you some tips to help tame those tresses.

.) Shampoo Less. Don‘t wash your hair every day, or even every other day. Try to stretch those hair washing days as far apart as possible. - I swear the people that say “eww” to this have been living under a rock. Washing your hair strips it of it’s natural oils, this causes your hair to produce more oil later which is how those daily washers end up with “hair to oily to not wash daily”. Sorry, we will come back to this rant another day. - In the winter, the air is dry, the heat inside is even drier, and if you wash to often and pull away the oils then you’re asking for a dry itchy scalp.

.) Warm Water. When you do wash your hair, stick to warm or even cool water if you can stand it. Hot water just keeps stripping those good oils away.

.) Natural Oils. Adding an oil to your routine can help keep dryness to a minimum, and they help repair daily damage. Coconut, Argan, Jojoa, Macadamia, or Marula are all great choices. Personal preference applies here.

.) Deep Condition. A deep conditioning mask 1 time per week can do wonders for dry, brittle hair.

.) Leave-in-Conditioner. Coat ends after the shower or just to spray on dry hair for an added moisture boost can help keep static and fly always at bay.

.) Hats! Yes, hats can cause damage to hair and they can cause static, but I promise the cold, winter air is much more damaging. So pick a cute one out and rock it, all while knowing you’re doing you scalp a solid.

.) Diet. No one wants to hear this, but that junk food is doing nothing for your hair health (or skin...). Eating a balance full of good fats and plenty of protein can really change your hair game.

.) Silk. Cotton pillowcases can be rough on hair and cause breakage even while you sleep. Switching to silk (or even fake silk) is less damaging because the hair just slides across it.

.) H2O. At this point, we all know that water is the drink At the fountain of youth. The more hydrated you are, the more hydrated your hair is. Simple math.
